Dorothy W. Spriggs, Librarian

Dorothy Spriggs, LibrarianDorothy W. Spriggs is a retired teacher's assistant who worked 26 years in the Baltimore City Public School System. She has an Associate's degree in Early Childhood/Special Education.  In 1997, Dorothy joined RSVP-in-Baltimore City. Her volunteer assignment is with the Center for School Mental Health under the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dorothy serves as a resource librarian where she spends many hours cataloging materials, reviewing new periodicals, and assisting students in locating information. Dorothy was delighted to serve on a panel at the Third National Conference on Advancing School-Based Mental Health Services in Virginia Beach, VA. on "Establishing Connections with the Religious Community." Dorothy has dedicated her life to helping others. She has been a member of her local church for over 58 years and is very active in missionary work both locally and nationally. She has worked untiringly in the Sunday School and youth departments of her church, and she has helped with groups such as girl scouts, youth retreats, and youth counseling. Dorothy has also completed an HIV-AIDS education prevention-training course (the Crisis 2000 AIDS Ministry Training Course).  She has traveled to Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Africa, and Hawaii to mentor youth.  After many years volunteering her services, the Red Cross awarded Dorothy the Nellie Hines Award for her outstanding services in 1988. RSVP-in-Baltimore City is proud to have her as one of its senior volunteers. Dorothy is a native of Baltimore City where she resides with her husband, Reverend Franklin Spriggs. They have three daughters, five grandchildren, one great granddaugheter, and two son-in-laws.
