Sexual Harassment/Assault Prevention Project

The objective of the Sexual Harassment/Assault Prevention Project (SHAPP) is to provide school-based education and raise awareness to decrease the prevalence of sexual assault and harassment (SAH) experienced by Maryland Youth.  In addition to implementation of the Comprehensive Health Education Curriculum (CHEC) which includes components on SAH in all 24 Maryland jurisdictions, through this partnership 12 state jurisdictions are providing a more intensive array of interventions to address and prevent this public health concern.

In phase I, the curricula from 13 jurisdictions were collected and reviewed using a structured review.  Phase II will include a survey of all13 jurisdictions on best practices and challenges associated with their curriculum.  Phase III will involve an intensive comparative analysis of one jurisdiction who exemplifies best practice in this initiative as compared to one jurisdiction not participating in the initiative.  Phase IV will focus on report writing and dissemination of findings and lessons learned from the study toward the development of a coordinated statewide plan to address and prevent SAH through a school-based intervention, including exploration of more significant federal and foundation funding.
