Sharon Hoover Stephan, Co-Director of the Center for School Mental Health

Sharon Hoover Stephan received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland n 2002, completing her clinical internship and two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine at the Center for School Mental Health (CSMH) and the School Mental Health Program.  She is currently the Co-Director at the CSMH and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Stephan's clinical and research focus is in the area of implementing empirically-supported interventions in school-based settings, with specific interest in primary care-mental health integration and traumatized youth. Dr. Stephan serves as a co-Investigator on several federally-funded projects including an NIH R01 on school mental health quality improvement, a CDC-funded collaborative on School Mental Health capacity building to state and local education agencies, and an NIH center on mental health in pediatric primary care settings.

In addition to her work in school mental health, Dr. Stephan serves on the research faculty of the Innovations Institute at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is currently the UMB Principal Investigator on several efforts to provide research and evaluation support to Maryland's child-serving agencies including: Medicaid 1915 c Home and Community Based waiver program (Maryland's Mental Hygiene Administration), Wraparound Fidelity Assessment System (Maryland's Governors Office for Children), Healthy Transitions Initiative (SAMHSA, Maryland's Mental Hygiene Administration), and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Evaluation (Maryland State Department of Education).
