Vicki Taliaferro RN, BSN, NCSN Vicki Taliaferro works as a Specialist, School Health Services State School Nurse Consultant for the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). In her current role, she provides technical advice to state school nursing leadership and develops state guidelines & policies pertinent to school health services. Ms. Taliaferro represents the MSDE and school nursing on a variety of multi-disciplinary committees related to school health issues. She assisted in the development of two Board of Nursing curriculums for delegation training and medication assistants training for school health. Ms. Taliaferro provides training to school staff including a mandated delegation course, medication technician and new school health supervisor orientation; participates on the Board of Nursing Practice Committee and the Maryland Statewide Nursing Commission on the shortage of Nurses; serves as a team leader for the pupil services branch, supervising/overseeing the pupil services onsite process, hiring, orientation and mentoring of new staff specialists to MSDE, and she is involved with the process of recruitment and hiring of new staff.
Ms. Taliaferro is a grant manager for the CDC Youth Risk Behavior Survey Maryland grant and a school mental health integration U.S. Department of Education grant for the Department. She coordinates an annual School Health Interdisciplinary Program (SHIP) – a multi-state professional development week-long training for school staff, provides leadership for a variety of pupil services programs, including their development and monitoring. Ms. Taliaferro is the lead specialist for the School-Base Health Center Initiative. She serves as liaison with other state agencies on school health related topics, including the Maryland Board of Nursing; provides feedback to the department regarding legislative issues; provides feedback to the state legislature, media and the community regarding school health issues; and represents the State Superintendent on numerous committees and commissions. |
