About Our SMH Program

Glen T. Pearson, MD

Dr. Pearson’s career commitments- as physician, therapist, administrator, and teacher- to the mental health of North Texas communities’ children and adolescents extends over 37 years.  During that time, he has served in leadership capacities in the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Terrell State Hospital, Timberlawn Mental Health System, Dallas County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center / Dallas Metrocare Services, the Dallas Independent School District, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Pearson is Past President of the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry, an organization whose highest honor he received in 2004, when he delivered the William A. Schonfeld Memorial Lecture.  He has also been active in the leadership of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.  He is the author or coauthor of a number of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including original articles and book chapters on the epidemiology and diagnosis of childhood and adolescent disorders, and on the treatment of severe psychopathology in adolescence.

Having relinquished his one remaining institutional clinical commitment, as Medical Director of the Dallas schools’ Youth and Family Centers in 2007, Dr. Pearson continues teaching in the UT Southwestern Department of Psychiatry, and maintains a solo private practice of outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry in Dallas.
