Lisa Dixon, MD, MPH Lisa Dixon, M.D., M.P.H. is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She serves as Director of the Division of Services Research in the School’s Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Dixon is also the Associate Director for Research of the VA Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) in VISN 5, the Capitol Health Care Network. Dr. Dixon is a graduate of Harvard College and the Cornell University Medical School She completed her psychiatric residency at the Payne Whitney Clinic/New York Hospital, a research fellowship at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, and a Master’s in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Dixon is an active researcher with grants from the NIMH, NIDA, the VA as well as numerous foundations. Her research activities have focused on improving the health outcomes of persons with severe mental illnesses and their families. Her current projects include a randomized trial of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill’s Family to Family Education Program, a study of the “5 A’s” for smoking cessation in mental health clinics and a randomized trial of a critical time intervention to reduce drop out from treatment among persons with severe mental illness. She has published over 100 refereed papers and numerous book chapters. Dr. Dixon’s other major interests include education as she was previously Director of Education and Residency Training in the Department of Psychiatry as well as ethical issues in human research. She is currently a Vice Chair of the University of Maryland Institutional Review Board. |
