Tom Sloane, LCPC, completed his undergraduate training at Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond) with a B.S. degree in psychology. He earned his M.S. degree in counseling psychology from Loyola University (Maryland) in 1984. Tom has been employed by the University of Maryland since 1983. After 10 years of providing neuropsychological and personality testing to inpatient and outpatient psychiatric patients on the UMB campus, he joined the University of Maryland School Mental Health Program (SMHP) in 1997. From 1997 to 2009, he provided counseling services to adolescents in a SMHP high school. Tom was promoted to associate director of the SMHP in 2001. From 2009 to present, he has served as the program manager for a new school-based mental health program, the Baltimore School Mental Health Initiative (BSMHI). BSMHI provides services to children in the Baltimore City public schools with special needs including serious emotional disabilities. Tom resides in Baltimore City with his wife Ann. They have two daughters, Sarah and Caitlin.
